Job Type/Schedule

This position is full-time and works approximately 37.5 hours per week. This position provides service Monday-Friday with occasional Saturday hours of 9am-3pm. This position is required to take after-hour call on a rotating basis, approximately one week every four weeks.

Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide primary health care for a diverse student population, within the scope of practice and consistent with the skill, training, education and competence of an APRN or PAC.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate and treat problems encountered in general medical practice, including but not limited to:
  • problems of the head and neck such as headache, conjunctivitis, eye pain, otitis externa and media, cerumenosis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, lymphadenopathy, oral ulcers, tooth pain
  • cardiopulmonary complaints such as upper respiratory infection, cough, pneumonia, asthma, hypertension, palpitations
  • gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, gastroenteritis, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, rectal pain
  • genitourinary complaints such as urinary tract infection, dysuria, hematuria, vaginal discharge, penile discharge, testicular pain, sexually transmitted infection or screening
  • musculoskeletal problems such as joint or extremity pain, back pain, muscle pain
  • neurologic problems such as headache, numbness, weakness, dizziness
  • endocrinologic problems such as hypothyroidism, hyperlipidemia, diabetes
  • dermatologic problems such as rash, folliculitis, eczema, tinea
  • general problems such as fever, fatigue, insomnia
  • physical exams, evaluation for travel, well woman exams
  • Care above includes the following medical acts, within the scope of practice and consistent with the skill, training, education and competence of an APRN or PAC:
  • History and physical exam, both problem-focused and routine
  • Procedures including cryotherapy of benign skin lesions, I & D of soft tissue abscess or pilonidal cyst, nail removal or cauterization, simple suturing
  • Prescribing of non-controlled substances
  • Ordering of diagnostic tests including, but not limited to, radiology, laboratory, EKG, pulmonary function testing
  • Referrals to other providers including, but not limited to, medical subspecialist, occupational or speech therapist, audiologist
  • Effectively utilize a computerized Electronic Health Record
  • Complete follow-up of individual patients as needed either by return visit, phone call, electronic communication, or written letter
  • Take part in the Saturday half day clinic and weekly call assignments, approximately one time per month
  • All duties must be done in collaboration with physician as outlined in collaborative practice agreement

Provide women’s health care:

  • Examine and treat patients in the Gynecology area as required. These duties will include:
  • Routine gynecological exam including breast exam, pelvic exam and thin prep complete with medical history.
  • Prescription for birth control pills or diaphragm.
  • Patient education with regard to well-woman examination, feminine hygiene, female anatomy and physiology.
  • Contraceptive advice and education.
  • Diagnosis, treatment and education of diseases of the female genitourinary tract.
  • Report, explain and educate patients regarding abnormal thin prep results.
  • Refer for diagnosis and treatment of any abnormal thin prep report in need of oncology follow-up.
  • Minor biopsy procedures as needed for diagnosis of disease.
  • Referral to private OB-GYN on as needed basis such as prenatal care, ovarian cysts, other female surgery, Norplant, IUD, etc.
  • Keep accurate and in depth records of patient care and interactions.
  • Complete follow-up of individual patients as needed either by return visit, phone calls or written letter.
  • Work with Student Affairs, Residential Life, Housing, et al in the extension and promotion of outreach education to the student and campus community with regard to human sexuality, STD’s, etc.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Nurse Practitioner

  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

  • Currently licensed as an advanced practice nurse in the state of Missouri by the Missouri Board of Nursing and certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or equivalent body, in Adult medicine, Internal Medicine, or Adolescent Medicine, with an emphasis in the FNP or ANP program.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri
  • Significant adult medicine, family practice, internal medicine, or adolescent medicine experience

OR

Physician Assistant

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Currently certified as a Physician's Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Licensed Physician's Assistant in the State of Missouri
  • Significant adult medicine, family practice, internal medicine, or adolescent medicine experience

  • multicultural competency, possessing the ability and skills to work with diverse populations (e.g. ethnic, LGBTQ, gender, etc.),
  • prior experience working with university students.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is commensurate with experience.
