Ameren Senior Network Engineer (Voice Technologies) in St Louis, Missouri

About The Position

  • This position is for an Operations Engineer performing systems administration and support for Ameren's voice and telephony infrastructure supporting core communications services such as inbound/outbound calling, voice conferencing, and interactive voice response.

  • Performs activities related to Network Performance, Lifecycle, Reliability and Problem Management

  • Supports/troubleshoots network problems

  • Researches and evaluates emerging network and communication technology

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provides expertise and support in response to voice infrastructure incidents and outages. Leads efforts to analyze, troubleshoot and resolve network incidents

  • Responsible for administration and operational support of Ameren’s internal voice communication systems and related systems/infrastructure consisting of the following technologies/vendors: Avaya, Sonus, SBC, Xmedius, Nectar, Verint, IPC, SIP devices, AT&T Call Allocator, & AT&T Premier

  • Supports complex hardware, systems and software for network and/or security components

  • Evaluates new and emerging technologies

  • Supports the Design team in developing recommended solutions that address the user satisfaction and business needs of the organization

  • Develops and maintains scripts to facilitate network administrative tasks and automate repetitive processes. Leads teams to conduct the technical analysis of current networks

  • Writes requirements documents for evaluation of new hardware/software

  • Executes data backup and recovery routines on a specified schedule or as requested

  • Reviews the Digital organization’s technology enablement and integration plans; demonstrates technical expertise within the network through determining best course of action for network-specific projects

  • Proactively communicates Ameren’s network strategy and links to broader digital objectives across the digital organization

  • Identifies trends in issues and determines the root cause to reduce future issues

  • Manages and ensures quality of medium risk/impact network installations or enhancements (e.g., coordinating meetings, tracking budget, following up on action items)

  • Mentors less experienced co-workers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in engineering, mathematics, computer science or business

  • 5+ years of relevant experience

  • In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Detailed knowledge of the planning, design, implementation and troubleshooting of network systems

  • Detailed understanding of routing and switching technology, IP, and signaling

  • Detailed knowledge of ITIL framework

  • Detailed knowledge of industry trends and products

  • 5+ years of experience with configuring/supporting Avaya voice infrastructure is preferred

  • Experience with voice recording systems (Verint, Nice), Session Border Controllers, IPC Turret systems, satellite telephony, or Nectar VoIP analysis tool is a plus.

  • Experience with Cisco network infrastructure, 802.1x port security, packet capture, and network troubleshooting tools is a plus.
