The work schedule is M-F 9am-5:30pm (30 min lunch 1:00-1:30pm) . Starting pay is $11.00 an hour.
Responsible for the efficient and healthy operation of the kitchen and dining area to include documentation of weekly menu plans, reporting food and supply needs to the supervisor, preparation and serving of meals, and clean-up of kitchen and dining area. Make a positive impact on people struggling to stabilize after losing their own homes by providing friendly competent service for our 61-bed shelter for men, women and adults with minor children. Learn shelter policies, procedures and guidelines. Enhance relationships by demonstrating effective problem resolution skills. Utilize a computer for the ordering of food and timekeeping records.

High school diploma or equivalent with one year cooking experience for large groups (30-50) and one year of supervisory experience. Combination of education and experience will be considered. Able to comply with recipes, safety handling instructions and job description. Medically qualified to work in food service area. Able to prepare meals in large quantities. Must have valid drivers’ license and pass TSA MVR check. Must possess or obtain Adult and Child CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens and ServSafe certification within three months of employment. Must be a team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must think independently and demonstrate sound judgment. Must be supportive of The Salvation Army’s mission and policies.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements: Must be capable of performing the above essential duties. Capable of frequently lifting 25 pounds and occasionally lifting 50 pounds. Will occasionally move 50 pounds or more using a dolly/cart/truck. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment; however, the kitchen will get above 80 degrees at times. Medium cold category temperatures will be experienced in the walk-in refrigerator/freezer.
